Terroir. Getting into wine, you’ll hear this term a lot. It’s a catch-all term for the environmental factors that have an influence on the wine. Terroir used to play a factor in beer too: beer styles were developed according to the local water. Different areas have different hops and malts. And maybe most importantly: the local microorganisms gave each brewery its own unique character.
Interview with Robbert Uyleman of Het Uiltje
Sometimes it only takes one beer and you know the brewery is something special. One of those beers was Bosuil (Strix aluco) by Dutch Brewery Het Uiltje. An immense Black IPA. Accordingly we are happy to introduce to you Robbert Uyleman, man behind Het Ultje.
Interview with Toby Munn of The Kernel Brewery
After all three previous exposures to The Kernel Brewery, we’ve had at least one beer we’ve been raving about. After the first visit at the brewery in 2011 it was an IPA. At the De Molen it was the Bière De Table Barrel Aged #4 and at the CBC the London Sour Raspberry/Basil. Visiting Kernel in London thus was a no brainer.
Profile of Stu McKinlay, Head boy at Yeastie Boys
Just after flying out of Los Angeles, a call for help appeared on our Twitter feed: The Yeastie Boys were asking if there’s any good beer at Los Angeles Airport. Quikly reporting our own experience, a discussion ensued between breweries from New Zealand and the USA, a Swiss blog and a burger restaurant at LAX. Yes, as ex-boy scouts we still like to do a good deed.
Interview with Raphaël Mettler of Brasserie Trois Dames
In Vaud, on the Balcony of Jura, lies the idyllic small town of Sainte Croix. Already well known for hiking and skiing, from this town flows a stream of beer into Switzerland and the rest of the world as well. We met with Raphaël Mettler, the owner of Brasserie Trois Dames, to talk about his career and his planned attacks on our taste buds.

Interview with Jérôme Rebetez von Brasserie des Franches-Montagnes (BFM)
Somewhere close to the edge of the world, or at least the edge of Switzerland, is Jura and here you’ll find the Brasserie des Franches-Montagnes, better known as BFM. The brewery of Jérôme Rebetez is the only Swiss brewery with a global reputation and with his Abbaye de Saint Bon-Chien, BFM brews a modern classic. Therefore this trip to BFM was like a pilgrimage for us.
